Memories

Rosemary Flack

I was one girl at Clark's College in Park Avenue from 1953 to 1958 I think. It was such a long time ago.

I well remember one of my friends had a twin brother at the Boys school and couldn't talk to him if she saw him.

The Headteacher there was Miss Daphne Lockyer, she was very strict but a lovely lady. I can remember the names of quite a few of the staff there and have found some photos taken while I was there. Also names of some of the pupils but not many.

Who are the other names you have got from there?

Rosemary Lawrence [nee Flack]

Hello Grahame, lovely to hear from you! I've never been able to get into the Clark’s website properly, but then, probably my fault, after all I left Clarks before computers were invented! I was there from September 1970 till July 1975, Miss Collins was the headmistress, my first teacher was Mrs. Budd, I had a friend called Deborah Woodyatt whose brother Adam was in the boys' school. We had a maths teacher called Mr. Flanders who wore a black gown, a geography teacher called Miss Bateman who's "catchphrase" was "there you go growling again" when the others in my class played her up, an English teacher called Mrs. Doody who also taught embroidery (just what is useful!), and a biology teacher called Mrs. Pearce (I think!), did you have any of the same teachers at the boys' school? In about 1974(ish) the Nolans joined the school, Linda was in my class, Bernadette was in the one below, although we shared the same shorthand/typewriting class and Coleen was in the Prep school, where we used to sneak into the toilets in breaktimes to try cigarettes in the loos. Disgusting now, I know!

Gillian
